Yahoo Answers For Commercial Holiday Decorations
Question Is the Holiday Season too overrated and commercialized?
Every Holiday Season it seems like there are just too many commercials, decorations, and a severe neglect for true meaning of the holidays. Also there are too many unrealistic expectations when it comes to the social part of the holiday season. This time of the year seems way too superficial and loaded with unrealistic expectations which is a big reason why so many people suffer from depression this time of year. Anyone else agree?

Best Answer Way too commercialized -- and this year (2008) was the EARLIEST That I saw Christmas Stuff being put out for sale -- even well before Halloween (which just sickened me tremendously). I think that there is just too much greed in the world -- and not enough emphasis on being GOOD to each other (you know -- Respect and Treat another with Dignity) and to remember the blessings that surround us and be grateful for them too. Then add on top of this all those "mandatory" Social Functions during the Holiday -- everything from office parties to those for groups you belong to (OH .. yes, I do remember -- they are SO MISERABLE to go to ... especially when one is SINGLE (Like I am) and you get charged 50% more than the per person rate for couples at an event -- and then get STUCK in the back of the room at the 'Singles' Table). Nothing like getting isolated, but having to attend anyway. Which is why I am so glad that I am now an Empty-Nesting Single Retiree -- and do NOT Feel "obligated" to show up at these functions -- instead staying home and just enjoying the PEACE, the Quiet, and the comfort.
Question When does the holiday season begin for you?
for me it begins on halloween!!!! :) oh how I love the holidays and the decorations and the snow and the cozinessand the christmas commercials. The only thing I don't like is the commercialism. Holidays have become about presents...0 presents. People are morons for that. although once in awhile its ok I guess. When do the holidays begin for you? the holiday season?

Best Answer ugh now, I work at a mall and its not even 5 days after Halloween, and I went in yesterday for my shift and they got the trees and decor up already, its not even thanksgiving yet. I can just see the mayhem now. I might as well type up my well-though-out resignation letter now *types letter*
